A site of natural beauty, but also a symbol of connections and rivalries
History says that during the conquest of the hondogo kingdom of Bugesera, the two kingdoms, Burundi and Rwanda, were fighting for strategic control of the Shinge and Rugero hills. The leader of the rwandan army was killed during an attempt to seize these two strategic points. His death, which occurred in this bitter struggle, marked a decisive turning point. He was buried on the eastern side of the two hills, a place today symbolic of this time of conflict.
