Founded in 1897 and built in a Gothic style with imposing architectural elements that have left a strong historical imprint on the region
The Muyaga church was the first christian mission established in Burundi. Its creation protected a fired protest from Muzazi, a loyal leader of king Mwezi Gisabo, who vigorously opposed the establishment of the christian mission on his land. This opposition led to the burning of the church, and the remains of this time are still visible today.
