Among the most famous species of the Rusizi Nature Reserve, the most legendary is undoubtedly Gustave, the Nile crocodile reputed for being 6 meters long. His reputation was reinforced by documentaries and explorers’ accounts.
The Rusizi Nature Reserve, located only 12 km from Bujumbura on the road to Uvira in the DRC, is a true biodiversity site. Comprising grassy savannah with acacia trees and the Rusizi River, it shelters remarkable wildlife including families of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and many bird species.
