Among the most famous species of the Rusizi Nature Reserve, the most legendary is undoubtedly Gustave, the Nile crocodile reputed for being 6 meters long. His reputation was reinforced by documentaries and explorers’ accounts.

The Rusizi Nature Reserve, located only 12 km from Bujumbura on the road to Uvira in the DRC, is a true biodiversity site. Comprising grassy savannah with acacia trees and the Rusizi River, it shelters remarkable wildlife including families of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and many bird species. Visitors can explore the reserve by taking a boat tour on the Rusizi River, allowing close observation of fauna and flora.
