Acrobatic dance, originating from the Buragane region on Burundi’s border with Tanzania, is an impressive show practiced only by men. Dressed in raffia fibers tied around their pelvis and wearing crowns of bird feathers, the dancers perform spectacular aerial movements, using their legs and hands to perform pirouettes and turns, while remaining standing. This mixture of agility, strength and grace surprises and amaze, and offers a fascinating insight into traditional art that is not found in Bujumbura but will surprise you in Makamba.
