An essential place for conservation, contributing to the protection of local species and the maintenance of ecological balance.
The Kigwena nature reserve located in Rumonge on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, with an area of 500 hectares, was created in January 2000 with the aim of protecting the biodiversity of this region of Burundi. The flora is mainly made up of limbas and palm trees, creating a dense and varied forest environment, rich in vegetation. This reserve is a true haven of green where fauna thrives, especially monkeys and mongooses and other species, which roam freely in this preserved ecosystem.
